The Homosexual Agenda

Click here to add The Homosexual Agenda to your Google Calendar!

Here’s the deal: there’s no shortage of queer events in New York, but keeping track of them all can be hard work for the pomo homo a go-go. Getting the word out can also be tough for smaller groups with great programming but limited resources. That’s where The Homosexual Agenda comes in.

Get on the Agenda by befriending the Queer Commons on Facebook, and inviting us to your events. Through the wonders of modern technology, they will be added to The Homosexual Agenda’s publicly available Google Calendar, which anyone can view (and/or add to their own Google calendar). All events will also appear here on the Queer Commons website, and a weekly agenda will be distributed via PDF to members of the Queer Commons Google Group (and any other lists that elect to receive it). In short, a crowd-sourced calendar built by as many queers as we can find to contribute. That’s what and all.

Submissions are always welcome – especially events for and by people of color, GQ/GNC/trans folks, poor queers, sex radicals, and other marginalized communities. [Note from Adrien: this isn't one of those desperate pleas for diversity. This is because I am many of these things, and would like to party with y'all. Thx.] So friend the Queer Commons on Facebook and start inviting us to your events to help spread the word, and sign up for our list to stay in the know.

You’re welcome, darlings.

PAST ISSUES OF THE AGENDA

The Homosexual Agenda, Vol. 5, Issue 2: queer events 7/14-7/21

The summer may be half over, but the beat goes on with The Homosexual Agenda, a weekly events listing for the pomo homo a go-go, brought to you by The Queer Commons! Looking forward to seeing y’all at our sex robots talk (oh my!) on Wednesday 7/20 (DETAILS HERE), and in the meantime…

Tonight (Thurs 7/14), catch the opening of “Modern Dandy,” a collection of photos of fiiine boys and bois. Speaking of bois, there are only a few days left to help bklyn boihood with their kickstarter campaign for the 2012 calendar. if they don’t make their goal, they can’t make the calendar, and THEN who will we crush on all year? ‘Nuff said. give what you can (and snag a guaranteed first-run print of the calendar) here.

Friday (7/15), join the magnificent Butters Papi for MaDHatTers CabArEt’s Give ‘em Fiya!, a hot hot hot line-up of beautiful, talented, and beautifully talented queers of color. If you haven’t made it out to one of their shows yet, let us assure you of their awesomeness, so get your tickets now!

This weekend, release your inner punk with Hey Queen! (Sat 7/16). Can’t party ’cause your mom’s in town? Bring her along to the Center for a meeting of PFLAG Families of Color and Allies (Sun 7/17). Sunday night’s also your first chance to catch Out in the Open, an interview-based spoken word series on queer oppression and empowerment.

Last but not least, join the Queer Commons and researcher Laura G. Duncan for “Hey, Where’s My (Queer!) Robot Girlfriend?!” on Wednesday, July 20, an event on queering sexual technology. Technology and sexuality have long been intimately connected, each inspiring innovation in the other, and nowhere is this more striking than in the fields of teledildonics and sexual robotics. Where do queer identities and desires fit into this brave new world? Do robots have a race? Can we image a trans cyborg – and are queers cyborgs already? And most importantly, hey, where ARE our robot girlfriends?? Prepare for software that will get you hot n’ bothered, tips on how to tell if your robot crush is queer, wonderings about whether one can actually identify the gender and race of a drive belt, and a whole handful of delightfully bizarre clips from science fiction, advertising and actual sexual robotics projects. Readings and details are online at our Facebook event here. A reading summary will be also be posted and sent out shortly, so keep your bionic eyes peeled!

Want to get on the Agenda? Friend The-Queer Commons on Facebook and invite us to your events – we’re happy to help spread the word. All submissions are welcome, and we’re especially eager for tips on events by and for people of color, noncitizens, low-income folks, trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer and intersex people, and all those who exist outside of the mainstream. More (and subscribe!) on the online version of the Agenda here.

The Homosexual Agenda, Vol. 5, Issue 1: Queer Events 7/7-7/14

Stumped by hump day? Never fear, The Homosexual Agenda is here: a weekly events listing for the pomo homo a go-go, brought to you by The Queer Commons!

Things are heating up at Dixon Place this month, site of the 20th Annual HOT! Festival, a great line-up of queer performance and culture and the oldest, continually running festival of its kind in the world. With shows 7 days a week, there’s something for everyone (see the full schedule here). Three to catch this week: Dyke-Opalypse! (Friday 7/8), “Roots. Soul. Music.” (Tues 7/12) and “America Ain’t Ready / HOMEbody” (Tues 7/12). Those of you who caught our “Queers are segregated. So?” or “Busted, Broke and Queer” events might be especially interested in “HOMEbody,” a multimedia dance and video installation that explores the implications of gentrification in Park Slope, Fort Greene and Harlem for those that have been displaced and those that remain.

Bummed that June’s over ’cause you’re still bursting with pride?! No worries, the celebration continues with Pride events in the Bronx and Bushwick this weekend (Sat 7/9).

Tuesday (7/12), pay your respects at the last (for now) Sideshow, with special guests honoring longtime host Cheryl B.

Thursday (7/14), make sure to catch the opening of “Modern Dandy,” a collection of (may we say, HOT) photos of “a subversive aesthetic of beauty that disrupts normative gender in fascinating ways.” And how! Thursday’s your chance to don a bow-tie and party with all the beautiful people, but catch the exhibit itself any time from July 7-17.

Save the date for the next Queer Commons discussion group on Wednesday, July 20, when the fabulous Laura G. Duncan will lead us in a conversation about sex robots going queer (yes, teledildonics WILL be on the menu).Want to get on the Agenda? The Homosexual Agenda, Vol. 4, Issue 2: queer events 6/9-6/15

Oh my word, it’s so hot we’re practically melting and it’s about to get EVEN HOTTER, ’cause here comes The Homosexual Agenda, a weekly events listing for the pomo homo a go-go brought to you by The Queer Commons! We are full-on into Pride month and can’t WAIT to tell you about all of the wonderful things gay New York (especially, ahem, BROOKLYN!) has to offer you this weekend.

Tonight (6/9), pay homage to your queer forebears at a reading of “A Queer History of the United States,” then dance it up at Rebel Cupcake. Tomorrow (6/10), join Bklyn Boihood for their special Pride edition party at Southpaw. DJ Sebastian will be spinning and the party promises to be off the hook, so we suggest getting there *real* early (like, weirdly early) to make sure you get in the door. Bonus: early arrivals can get a free HIV test, too. Saturday (6/11), celebrate Brooklyn Pride at a drag rubgy game, at the Pride parade, at a new queer Latin dance party, at the legendary SWEAT! party or, in true Brooklyn style, however you feel. If you’ve recovered enough to go out Sunday night (6/12), check out the second annual Sex Workers Cabaret or Mixed Messengers, a panel that will bring together the creative teams behind recent HIV prevention campaigns. Monday (6/13), check out a screening about drag shows in New York past and present, or join the Judy party for its benefit for the Ali Forney Center. Last but not least, on Tuesday (6/14), Sideshow: The Queer Literary Carnival presents its second annual Butch/Femme Pride Performance, featuring Susan Herr, founder of dapperQ.com.
